Eczema Treatments and Prevention
There are different symptoms that characterize eczema. There are lots of different treatments
for eczema, but most of them just relieve some of the symptoms, but don't completely elinimate the problem.
There are different types of eczema, the key in finding the right treatment is knowing what type of eczema it
is.
Medication as Eczema Treatment
One of the most effective treatments of eczema are corticosteroids. These are used to soothe
skin and get rid of the itch. It will control most all symptoms of eczema. Doctors will usually start with a
less potent steroid for your initial treatment and gradually increase the dosage if the initial treatment
does not provide relief. The main side affect with these steroids, both potent and not so potent, is that
they can cause the skin to thin. This will cause the skin to become more sensitive which can prove to be
dangerous.
Due to the dangerous side effects doctors do not recommend the use of allergy medications as
a treatment for eczema. It is important to consult your doctor before beginning any eczema treatment because
some types will not react to anti-itch medications. Natural treatments of eczema may seem attractive but you
must remember that they have not been rigorously tested and may have some side effects. Not all types of
eczema will react the same to one type of treatment.
Moisturizers to Prevent Eczema
The best treatment for eczema is prevention. Treatment in the form of medication will only
treat the symptoms of eczema as they appear. Preventing eczema will not only control the condition but it
will also prevent it from having flare ups. One way to prevent eczema is routine use of emollients. These are
very moisturizing and will ease the dry skin that can sometimes cause the eczema symptoms to
appear.
There are tons of at home treatments for eczema, some better than others. You need to be
careful when treating eczema since using the wrong product can cause more harm than good. More severe
treatments should be applied slowly as to avoid discomfort. Home remedies that sound like they are too
incredible needs to be introduced to the skin slowly and carefully since these may bring pain and
discomfort.
